Proper Recovery

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Last week, I got injured. It was not during a workout in my gym. It was a stupid accident. I felt and injured my left arm…

In order to recover fully and as fast as possible, I interrupted my training. This is this post subject: the importance of proper recovery.

If I’m tired, sick or injured, then I must do something about it. The worst I can do is ignore the fact and train as if nothing is happening. I don’t have any defined rules for recovery, but in general, I wait until symptoms/pain are gone before resuming training.

For my current “incident”, the recovery time will be approx. 10-14 days, depending how I will feel. Because the off time is rather long, I will resume training as if I was starting a new cycle: cut back on poundage and trade some intensity for volume. It should take me around 1 month to get back where I was before I had to stop.

I am no more a young guy in his prime time. I have to be very careful about recovery in order to have some kind of progression.
